The Five Mountain program is built around the cohort model. Each entering class comprises a cohort and matriculates through the program as a cohesive unit. The cohort model fits particularly well with the program's course progression plan in which specific courses are taken each term by all students in the cohort. 

Students take most classes with their cohort during the first two years of the program, with the exception of electives This model assists faculty in preparing an effective program of study by scaffolding learning throughout the courses, and provides immeasurable support to the students as they create networks with their peer-colleagues for study and life beyond the Seminary.

Moving through the seminary program as a cohort is particularly important in an e-learning environment as a way to build group cohesion and association. Seminary students who benefit from being able to take coursework at their home location should also be able to be challenged by the camaraderie and personal growth experiences that membership in a unified group brings.

New students can register for one of two cohorts - Fall - October, or Spring - April.

Once enrolled, students must register for at least one class in three out of the four quarters in a calendar year in order to remain current.

Quarters at Five Mountain are two months in length, with one month off in between each quarter.
